- Attract a new audience
One way in which it is important for Adbusters to have an online presence is it's another way for them to spread their ideologies. They do this by having a large section of the website on "spoof" adverts, which gives the producers a chance to show their ideologies to the audience by culture jamming the adverts and changing them. The audience then gets the chance to interpret the images and take into account the producers anti capitalist ideologies. In many ways this would not be allowed to take some adverts and turn them into potentially offensive adverts but they can get around this. They do this by saying they are a non profit magazine so all money made goes back into the magazine or paying staff. One theorist who talks about the regulation of the industry is Sonia Livingston and here her idea is supported that social media can get around regulations and is much harder to manage. This allows adbusters to get its controversial ideas across through the culture jammed adverts yet be safe from the magazine getting stopped. So Adbusters knows that whatever it posts it doesn't have to worry so much about getting shut down and its meant that it appeals to a certain audience and doesn't have as much competition as other magazines as it is quite different and unique.
